Why I will skip the Islamic open house
The Journal Sentinel editorial board thinks we should all go learn about Islam. I know all I need to know about Islam, thank you very much - let's start with the way that women are treated in most Muslim countries. I have no interest in going to learn about a religion that pretty much fosters societies that enslave women. It's funny how liberals will toss some of their principles out the window (read: gender discrimination) for others (read: multiculturalism or religious "inclusion"). The board writes:
...Milwaukeeans should avail themselves of a special opportunity Saturday. They should visit the Islamic Center of Milwaukee for an open house that will include a tour, question-and-answer sessions and information about a religion that shares some of the same roots as Judaism and Christianity.
Would the JS editorial board ever encourage Muslims to go to a Christian church for a "special opportunity" to get to know us and our ideals? After all, last time I looked, Muslim fanatics attacked us, not the other way around. They hate us. Maybe they need to learn more about us. Or the Journal Sentinel editorial board could just encourage them to attend an open house at the Women's Center or a UW women's studies class. I doubt that will ever happen.
